3 Quick Ways You Can Address Pressure on the Job
We all feel pressure at work at any given time. More often than not, it is caused by pressing demands, and sometimes it can be heightened by near-impossible deadlines, uncooperative team members and unrelenting bosses. When this happens, we feel very stressed to a point when it’s simply hard to breathe. But just like any challenge, there are ways to address it.
Here are 3 quick ways you can address pressure on the job:
Smile
Smiling can do wonders. Even if you don’t really feel like it, if you try to smile, it will make you feel good. Remember there’s a good side to every story, so look at all the good things about dealing with the pressure and what you can accomplish from overcoming it. Soon enough that smile will be heartfelt. Coping with pressure gracefully is such an admirable trait that has its rewards in the future; you could be considered a good candidate for a promotion or a raise (or both!). Yet another reason to smile right?
Take a break
Stop thinking and telling yourself that there’s no time. Of course there is! Instead of spending 5 minutes overwhelming your brain with all the things you have to do, use time that to take a breath and relax. A power nap can be very helpful too because sometimes it’s harder to think and do things when you are sleep deprived. Grab your favorite snack or take a moment to relish your favorite frappe. Some people I know leave their desk for a few minutes and take a walk. It will help clear your head of the pressure and make you approach things with a more positive perspective.
One step at a time
Thinking about doing everything at the same time is just nearly impossible. It often doesn’t bring out great results too. So to prevent this, you have to plan and take one step at a time. Work on the top priority tasks first and worry about the smaller things later. Ask your team mates for help (if it is a team effort). A little organization of thoughts and actions can help improve your performance. It can give you focus on the priority tasks and not miss out on details.
There is more than one way to alleviate pressure on the job. Don’t let yourself be swallowed by it. Take a breather, smile and soon enough you would find that the job can actually be such a breeze if you are composed and not sweating the small stuff. Have a great week!
