Anne, thank you for your comments. Job seekers just need to be a little more patient and sometimes a little more creative if they want their dream job in this competitive economy. There are a lot of jobs out there (most of them the average person will not touch with a 10-foot pole), and if anybody just wanted a job without regard for what it was, what it paid or what it did for their career, then everyone could work. But since there are always other considerations (mortgage, babysitting, food on the table, retirement planning, what have you), then the degree of difficulty in getting a specific position increases (sometimes even dramatically). It doesn’t mean it is impossible; just walk in it expecting to take a little longer than you may like…perhaps that will soften the blow some. I don’t think we will be in this situation too long…but while we are not out of it, job seekers should not give up or give in.

I like your five myths and I agree with what you say. These times are so chaotic that many of the old conventions are obsolete… like the one about job-hopping. You do what you have to do.
