5 Signs You’re Ready for Retirement
The general population often associates the word retirement with being old. Older people who have either established a mark in the industry or who have rendered long years of service. But you know, you don’t exactly have to be that old to say you’re ready for retirement. Nowadays, whether young or old, you can be ready to retire from your regular job as soon as you see the signs below:
You have a fat savings account that could last the rest of your life. This is one sure sign that you’re ready to retire. However, be careful to spend wisely. Remember it’s much easier to spend than to save. It would be a good idea to set up a monthly budget so you can keep track of what you’re spending. If you live in the countryside and you love gardening, you can try planting your own vegetables and fruits, which could also help cut your expenses and let you spend on other things you might like.
You have stable investments and a retirement benefit/package that continuously provides a steady flow of money. Once you have a different sustainable means of income then you can say goodbye to full time work. If you have stocks or shares that pay out well, just continue to monitor them and make sure that your money is at the right place. Having stable investments can assure you of a good life after retirement.
You no longer enjoy the thrill and excitement of the fast paced life. Some retirees go back into the workforce because they haven’t gotten over this part of their lives. But if you feel like you can no longer keep up with a life full of demands and deadlines then you’re better off retiring. Now may be a good time to start planning that dream vacation you have always wanted to spend with your family.
You are distracted by a different interest that you need to fulfill. If it has been your lifelong dream to be a writer, a painter, a musician or any other dream that doesn’t require you to go to the office full time, then go for it. It will only prolong your misery if you’re afraid to take risks. Sometimes following your dream can get you into better places rather than just living your 9 to 5 job day by day.
You can no longer handle working full time.
Have you ever driven to your office asking yourself “Why am I doing this?” If so and you feel like you can’t take it anymore (and you have signs #1 or #2 to back you up) then it’s time for you to retire from your job. A fulfilling means of living doesn’t always require one to be working full time or to be paid.
You can’t retire without having an alternate means of living, this is pretty obvious. At the very least, you should have savings, investments, and/or retirements benefits to support that move. So if you want to retire, plan it well, accept what you are about to do, set a date and get ready for your graceful exit!
