5 Things that Get Your Resume Booted
So you have found the job you want to apply to… make sure your resume doesn’t get booted in a second. Follow these 5 simple rules.
1. Not coupling it with a cover letter.
Cover letters are so very important to the application process. Your cover letter shows your professionalism and they are often the first glance of who you are. Catch their attention with the first sentence. They are also great for identifying any gaps in employment, or career changes with just a short statement. Show off your qualifications and interest in their company.
2. Resumes with ‘flair’
Scented paper, pink paper, or anything of a neon color will make your resume stand out… but not the way you are hoping for.Stick with a standard white or ivory paper, and make sure your resume format is professional and easy to read.
3. Digging into the past
You did what in 1983? Well an HR Manager doesn’t need to know. 10-15 years depending on your industry is the norm. Also don’t bore them to death with an ‘all about me’ personal section.
4. Remember… accomplishments… NOT duties!
How did you help the bottom line? List everything you did that made you get noticed- the good kind of noticing. You know what I mean!
5.I… I… I… I… I… I…
It’s not about you- it is about their company. So the question is… what can you offer them based on what THEY need?
Above all make it look snazzy. Need help? Google Free Resume Review Service and see how to make your resume really stand out.
