Career Changes… BUT HOW?
Itching for a new career? Well, before you start dreaming of yourself in this new direction, overly excited and enthusiastic of the possibility, let me warn you that it’s not at all easy. Pardon me for bursting your bubble, but it’ll take a lot of effort to make that career change. But the good news is, it’s not impossible.
So if you’re contemplating on making this change then you better start working on it. Keep in mind that, a different career would most likely, if not completely, require skills or experience that you don’t possess. Quite frankly, no matter how brilliant your resume content shines, you won’t get past a system where the first screening process is to match job requirements with your qualifications.
How on earth do you do this then? Build your network, keep in contact with people you know, better yet try to make friends or be in contact with people in the industry you want to get into. Getting referred by an insider can be your best bet in making your career change. Join social networking sites. This will allow you to find the right people that can help you get a job lead or inside information you might need to improve your chances of landing that new job. Be ahead of the rest by taking an extra step.
Also, don’t just mail your resume and keep your fingers crossed hoping to get an interview. Go on and drop your resume over yourself. Who knows? You just might get noticed by the boss, get a good insight from a co-applicant, meet a friend who works at that company or become friends with the secretary who can give you tips on what you should do. ( and no, I don’t mean THAT kind of friends) Add a cover letter too- very important in 99% of all job apps. And if you don’t have the experience needed, get some! Try an apprenticeship or on-the-job-training. Everything helps!
Be persistent. Soon enough your new career choice will be within your grasp.
