Don’t Have The Time? Think Again.
I’ll start this piece off with a simple fact:
Your resume is one of the single most important documents you will ever have. You HAVE the time for it.
I have clients periodically tell me they just don’t have the time that is why they want to hire a professional. But one client….. well he emailed first saying he didn’t have the time to go thru my normal resume writing process (which takes only about 30 minutes) and that he was gonna hire me and just wanted to pay me extra to pull off info from his old resume and do it the best I could.
That blew my mind!
He didn’t have the time? 30 minutes? He couldn’t be bothered to work with me on a resume… a document… that could determine his future career? Really? And he was happy for me to do the best I could and pay me extra for it… WOW!
Sad huh?
So many job seekers don’t ‘have the time’ to write a resume themselves- and they hire professionals to do it for them to not only save time, but to also make them look damn good on a resume. A resume folks is NOT an inconvenience and shouldn’t be thought of as that. If you don;t want to put the time into a resume to make it look great, don;t go whining and moping around wondering why you aren;t getting any interviews.
My resume process like most other companies except for quick online resume builders (I’ll save that rant for another day) all have a very specific process that is ironed out to help create the BEST resume… but the client actually does have to contribute and the more they do- the better it will make a resume and cover letter look. I engage my clients in some thought about their accomplishments, goals, what they really want to do and be perceived as employee wise… Why are they the best hire?
So I will reiterate… YOU HAVE TIME TO WORK ON YOUR RESUME! And if you don’t think you do – Make time!
