It Pays to Play (5 High Paying Jobs in Sports)
People who have a career that allows them to do the thing they love and get paid for it are very fortunate. This is so true for sports lovers; the fact that their talents rake in the big bucks after their day in the sun is enough motivation to keep doing what they do. Here are 5 high paying jobs in the gaming field.
1. Professional Athlete. Of course, it’s on the top of the list! Did you notice those mansions where NBA and NFL players live? How about the cars they drive? These people are literally at top of their game. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to know that most of these athletes earn between $400,000 and $1,800,000 annually.
2. Athletic Coach. A good team and an excellent coach usually go together. Athletic coaches are paid a lot of money as they are responsible in honing the whole team to become the best. They are brilliant people who are expected to think of various techniques and strategies to make the team number one. The average national annual salary range for this job varies according to the size of the institution and the coach’s experience but is generally pegged from $51,000 to $161,000 a year. However, fees can go by the millions in the “big league”.
3. Sportscaster. These people face the challenge of covering all sorts of sports events, giving a full account of the game so that viewers at home feel that they are right where the action is happening. Sportscasters are very influential in keeping viewers glued to the television set during a game. Depending on experience and location, sportscaster salary can vary from $27,048 to $101,736. If they make it to NFL, they can earn as much as $1Million or over; and if they’re fortunate enough to get picked by a network such as ESPN, for example, the sky is the limit. It’s interesting to note that the highest paid sportscaster today has a heart-stopping annual income of $4 million.
4. Sports Manager. Sports managers are hardcore, behind-the-scenes movers of a team; from budgeting to advertising and media deals, they keep the team operational and viable. Besides being experts on their own sport, they should also project a strong character and positive attitude especially when handling difficult seasons for the team. According to an April 2010 survey, the average salary range for sports manager is from $44,500 to $85,535 a year. If they manage a high profile team or individuals and their incomes are pegged at 10% of what the athletes earn, they could be looking at multi-million dollar earnings. NBA managers are known to have a salary range of $750,000 to $3.5 million.
5. Sports Agent. They make the deal on behalf of promising athletes and sign them up into a team with the best possible salary, often working on commission basis. Sports agents with the right attitude and objectives are among the richest Good Samaritans. They get anywhere from 3.5% to 10% of their client’s contract which can reach between $300,000 and $880,000. It’s common for successful sports agents to make well over $1.2 million with major league sports clients.
Not all people are given the opportunity to turn their pursuits into a career. It shouldn’t be difficult, especially when you put your heart and mind into the job and it’s the sport you love!
