And then the dreaded question that you wished wouldn’t be asked.

1."Can you tell me something about yourself?" When an interviewer asks you this, they don’t want to know about the kind of movies you watch, family issues or your favorite color. This is your prompt to give a general view of your background and experience relative to the position you are seeking. Focus on some accomplishments that you feel really proud of and how you think those have equipped you for the job you’re interviewing for.
2.“What would you say is your greatest weakness?” Take a moment to breathe before you answer this and don’t blurt out anything that could jeopardize your chance and… Read More

Many of my clients ask why I leave out certain info off of their resume. The reason I give every time- is that it doesn’t sell- and that is what a resume is supposed to do A lot of people make the mistake of including things on their resume that they shouldn’t. This is very typical. Naturally, you’re proud of every accomplishment you’ve had. You’d think that you should brag about everything you’ve done. You’re very eager to share every bit of information that describes you. Remember that a resume is not a biography. It should always be geared towards getting that certain job you’re aiming for.
Take this instance, if you ask… Read More

If you find yourself unhappy with your current place of employment, it may be a good idea to strategize your job search for the next one. Here are a list of things to note when searching for a job:
1.Self Awareness – How much about yourself do you really know? This doesn't necessarily mean knowing your own zodiac sign. How long do you plan on working? If you think that personnel hiring managers go through preliminary scans of incoming resumes to find the most qualified, think again! Here’s a funny thing about the initial resume scanning – the purpose is actually to narrow down the list and hiring managers do it to look for plausible reasons to strike out names and short list the candidates. You’re probably unaware of this; but job hopping is one of the foremost reasons for getting eliminated from the competition. That’s right; employers are still looking for some indications that the person they eventually hire is going to be a “loyal” staff.
So if you have been jumping from… Read More

I keep promoting the whole network idea and so many clients jut buck at the idea. Saying, well seriously, I am not good at speaking with people online and don't have the time for it; or well how am I possibly going to find someone in my area to network with.
I cannot believe with how much positive info out there about how to social network for a job that people aren't realizing this is the future. I think we need a dummies guide to networking for a job or something! It is just so FAR OUT of an idea for most for some reason.
My advice- always have a smashing resume on hand because you NEVER know where you will need it. Heck even the Barista… Read More

In this era of modern technology, everything is done in a hurry, but there are some things that shouldn’t be. Writing a resume is definitely not one of those.
Sure you can create a resume in less than an hour using resume wizard programs or copying a format from somebody else’s resume. But at what cost? Do you think that saving time or even money for a well written resume is really saving you anything? Well, think again!

Quick Info. You can check the company website for personnel info. Also you can check on the company website to see what positions are open. This usually will provide you with further contact info and more of it than just job boards. Media/PR pages on the company website and the net usually help as well.
In the end- research. The internet is such a beautiful thing!
One really sneaky way to do it- and honestly, it is my favorite... call the company!Ask the receptionist for the spelling of the hiring managers name for X department- so you can be sure to spell it right on the letter. Sometimes and if you are good enough... you can even… Read More
